Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Country Finance Manager to provide strategic and operational financial leadership for an established business operating within Tanzania.
This is a senior, hands-on finance role with responsibility for the full country finance function, including financial accounting and reporting, budgeting and forecasting, treasury, cash flow and working capital, taxation, compliance, internal controls and operational finance.
The successful candidate will act as a key business partner to country management while ensuring alignment with Group financial policies, reporting standards and governance requirements.
The role requires someone who combines strong technical finance capability with commercial awareness and a practical understanding of operational businesses. Experience within agriculture, heavy equipment, construction or another asset- and operations-intensive environment would be particularly relevant.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Business Partnering
- Lead and oversee the country finance function, ensuring strong financial governance, controls and accountability.
- Act as a trusted financial partner to country management and operational leadership.
- Provide meaningful financial analysis and insight to support strategic and operational decision-making.
- Lead, develop and supervise the finance team, ensuring appropriate capability and continuity.
- Drive financial discipline and continuous improvement across the organisation.
Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Ensure accurate accounting records in accordance with IFRS, Tanzanian statutory requirements and Group accounting policies.
- Oversee monthly management accounts, trial balances, journals, accruals and balance-sheet reconciliations.
- Deliver accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting within Group deadlines.
- Coordinate year-end financial statements and external audits.
- Manage intercompany accounting and reconciliations to support Group consolidation.
- Ensure audit findings are addressed and closed within agreed timelines.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Analysis
- Lead annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes.
- Monitor performance against budget and provide detailed variance analysis.
- Recommend corrective actions where performance deviates from plan.
- Develop financial models and scenario analyses to support investment, expansion and operational decisions.
- Identify and drive cost-control and efficiency initiatives.
Cash Flow, Treasury & Working Capital
- Take ownership of country-level cash-flow planning and forecasting.
- Manage bank accounts, liquidity and payment prioritisation.
- Coordinate foreign-exchange requirements and supplier payments.
- Manage Letters of Credit (LCs) and other treasury-related activities in conjunction with Group Finance.
- Maintain effective control of receivables, payables, inventory financing and overall working capital.
- Support loan administration, funding drawdowns and repayment schedules.
Taxation & Statutory Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with Tanzanian tax and statutory requirements, including VAT, PAYE, Withholding Tax, SDL and corporate taxation.
- Review statutory returns prior to submission and ensure all payments are completed within required deadlines.
- Act as the primary finance liaison with external auditors, tax consultants, banks and regulatory authorities.
- Monitor changes in tax legislation and proactively manage associated risks.
Internal Controls, Risk & Governance
- Maintain and strengthen internal financial controls, policies and delegated-authority frameworks.
- Identify financial, operational and compliance risks and implement appropriate mitigation measures.
- Lead the implementation and closure of internal and external audit findings.
- Ensure appropriate segregation of duties, documentation and authorisation controls.
- Maintain high standards of financial integrity, confidentiality and governance.
Operational & Project Finance
- Partner closely with operational teams on job costing, machinery utilisation and project-level financial performance.
- Support pricing decisions, contract reviews and profitability analysis.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs.
- Support CAPEX planning, evaluation and ongoing monitoring.
- Provide financial insight into operational and investment decisions.
Payroll & People Costs
- Oversee monthly payroll preparation and review.
- Ensure payroll-related statutory deductions and submissions are accurate and completed on time.
- Support remuneration planning, headcount control and staff-cost budgeting.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be an experienced finance professional who combines strong technical accounting and compliance knowledge with commercial and operational finance capability.
This position will suit someone who is comfortable remaining close to the detail while also operating as a senior business partner to management.
Experience within agriculture, construction, heavy equipment or services-based operations would be particularly advantageous.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
- Minimum 8–10 years' progressive finance experience, including at least 2–3 years in a senior or managerial position.
- Professional qualification such as ACCA or equivalent is advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and Tanzanian tax and statutory requirements.
- Strong practical understanding of VAT, PAYE, Withholding Tax, SDL and corporate taxation.
- Experience with ERP systems, ideally Sage X3 or a comparable platform.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and financial-analysis capability.
- Strong budgeting, forecasting and financial-modelling experience.
- Proven cash-flow, treasury and working-capital management experience.
- Exposure to multi-currency environments, Group reporting and consolidation would be advantageous.
- Experience within a regional or multinational Group structure would be beneficial.
