POSITION: Mechanical / Maintenance Engineer – Mining (Head Office)

LOCATION: Harare, Zimbabwe (with regular site travel)

REPORTING TO: Technical Director / Chief Operating Officer


ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Mechanical / Maintenance Manager to lead and oversee the engineering and asset management functions across our mining operations. Based at our Head Office in Harare, you will be responsible for setting maintenance strategies, ensuring high equipment availability, and driving fleet reliability across all operations.

This role requires a technical authority with a comprehensive background in managing heavy earthmoving equipment (mobile plant), fixed processing plant equipment, and light vehicle fleets.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strategic Asset Management: Develop, implement, and standardise preventative maintenance and asset management strategies across all operating sites.
  • Mobile & Plant Maintenance Oversight: Oversee the operational readiness, maintenance schedules, and lifecycle management of mobile mining equipment, fixed processing plant machinery, and light vehicle fleets.
  • Performance & Availability Monitoring: Track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), Mean Time to Repair (MTTR), and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) to maximize uptime.
  • Budget & Cost Control: Prepare and manage capital (CAPEX) and operational (OPEX) maintenance budgets, monitoring spare parts inventory and equipment lifecycle costs.
  • Site Support & Travel: Conduct routine site visits and technical audits across all mining locations in Zimbabwe to support site-based engineering teams and audit maintenance compliance.
  • Contractor & Supplier Management: Manage relationships with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), contractors, and vendors to ensure quality service delivery and optimal spare parts procurement.


KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering and maintenance management within the mining or heavy industrial sector.
  • Demonstrated experience concurrently managing mobile heavy equipment, fixed processing plants, and light vehicle fleets.
  • Proven track record in establishing preventative and predictive maintenance frameworks across multi-site operations.
  • Strong financial management skills with experience in budgeting, cost reduction, and vendor negotiations.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly to remote mining sites across Zimbabwe.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree or Higher National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related operational discipline.
  • Professional registration with the Engineering Council of Zimbabwe (ECZ), Institution of Engineers Zimbabwe (IEZ), or an equivalent recognized regional engineering body.
  • Formal qualifications in Project Management or Asset Management (e.g., Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional - CMRP) are highly advantageous.
