Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Site Manager to lead procurement, logistics and operational activities at a remote site in Tanzania.
This is a senior, hands-on operational leadership position requiring an individual with extensive experience across procurement, logistics, distribution and supply-chain management, ideally gained within complex, high-pressure and remote operating environments.
The successful candidate will take overall responsibility for site operations, client relationships, operational performance, people management and the safe and efficient movement and distribution of materials and bulk products.
This role requires a highly independent and resilient individual who is comfortable operating in a demanding environment and taking ownership of both day-to-day operational delivery and longer-term site performance.
Key Responsibilities
Site & Operational Management
- Take overall responsibility for effective day-to-day site operations.
- Manage the delivery and distribution of bulk and operational products including fuel, cement, reagents, lubricants and other industrial materials.
- Oversee loading and offloading activities and ensure efficient vehicle and truck turnaround.
- Coordinate operational and human resources according to site requirements.
- Identify and escalate potential operational risks before they impact service delivery.
- Ensure company assets are effectively maintained, tracked and appropriately documented.
- Maintain high operational standards across all site activities.
Procurement, Logistics & Supply Chain
- Coordinate procurement, logistics, expediting and distribution activities supporting the site.
- Ensure continuity of supply and timely delivery of critical materials.
- Work closely with internal and external supply-chain stakeholders to resolve operational challenges.
- Monitor service levels and ensure agreed operational KPIs are consistently achieved.
- Ensure appropriate processes and controls are followed across bulk and general cargo handling.
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Act as the primary point of contact for the client on site.
- Develop strong working relationships with client stakeholders and subcontractors.
- Participate in regular operational meetings.
- Engage with Supply Chain, Logistics, Projects, Operations and Finance teams.
- Manage client KPIs and ensure agreed service levels are achieved.
- Obtain required operational and billing approvals.
- Support the timely resolution of outstanding commercial and payment matters.
- Maintain effective relationships with relevant local authorities and community stakeholders.
People Leadership
- Lead a multidisciplinary site team across operations, logistics and distribution.
- Ensure appropriate manpower is available to meet operational requirements.
- Manage employee performance, accountability and discipline.
- Coordinate employee rotations and manpower planning without disrupting operational continuity.
- Identify and develop high-potential local employees.
- Support employee training and capability development.
- Build a strong culture of accountability, teamwork and operational excellence.
HSE, Compliance & Controls
- Promote a strong Quality, Health, Safety and Environment (QHSE) culture.
- Ensure all operations comply with company and client HSE standards.
- Ensure employees comply with site rules, company policies and established SOPs.
- Maintain appropriate certification for equipment and operators.
- Ensure controls around loading, offloading and product handling are properly implemented and documented.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for an established operations professional with significant experience in procurement, logistics, distribution and/or supply-chain management.
Candidates should ideally have worked within East Africa and have experience operating in remote, demanding or operationally complex environments.
Experience from sectors such as industrial services, tobacco, agribusiness, fuel and lubricants, heavy equipment, large-scale distribution or other complex supply-chain environments would be highly relevant.
Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years' relevant experience across procurement, logistics, distribution, supply chain and/or site operations.
- University qualification; postgraduate qualifications advantageous.
- Strong Tanzanian or East African operating experience.
- Previous experience working in remote or challenging operational environments.
- Strong understanding of logistics, distribution and supply-chain processes.
- Experience managing bulk products and industrial materials would be advantageous.
- Strong client and stakeholder-management experience.
- Proven people-leadership and site-management capability.
- Good commercial understanding, including budgeting, operational costs and KPIs.
- Strong knowledge of HSE requirements and operational controls.
- Technical understanding of equipment, spares or industrial operations would be advantageous.
