Mine Manager - Gold Operations
Location: Zimbabwe (site-based)
Level: Senior Management
Reports to: General Manager / Managing Director
The Opportunity
Our client, a gold producer in Zimbabwe, is looking for an exceptional Mine Manager to take full command of its operation. This is a rare opportunity for a seasoned mining leader to take full accountability for a gold mine and processing plant, drive production and recovery performance, and leave a lasting mark on a growing business.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Take overall responsibility for safe, efficient and profitable mining and processing operations.
- Deliver production, grade, recovery and cost targets in line with the life-of-mine plan.
- Lead, mentor and hold accountable the mining, engineering, processing, geology and support teams.
Plant Management and Flotation
- Oversee the full processing plant, including crushing, milling, flotation and downstream gold recovery.
- Optimize flotation performance, reagent consumption, throughput and metallurgical recovery.
- Work with metallurgical and maintenance teams to drive continuous improvement and reduce downtime.
Safety, Health and Compliance
- Ensure strict compliance with the Mines and Minerals Act, mine health and safety regulations and EMA environmental requirements.
- Champion a strong safety culture and zero-harm performance.
- Manage statutory returns, audits, inspections and engagement with regulators.
Financial and Commercial Management
- Develop, own and control operating and capital budgets.
- Identify cost-saving, productivity and efficiency opportunities without compromising safety or quality.
- Prepare and present operational, production and financial reports to executive management and the board.
Asset, Resource and Stakeholder Management
- Ensure effective maintenance and optimal utilization of plant, equipment and infrastructure.
- Oversee mine planning, geology, resource management and tailings and waste management.
- Maintain strong relations with employees, unions, local communities and government authorities.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related field (essential).
- Valid Mine Manager's Certificate of Competency, or equivalent statutory qualification recognized in Zimbabwe (essential).
- Postgraduate qualification, e.g. MBA or MSc in Mining, Metallurgy or Engineering (advantageous).
- Recognised health, safety and environmental training (advantageous).
Experience
- 20+ years' experience in the mining industry, including senior management and general management roles.
- Proven track record managing gold mining operations.
- Strong plant management experience, with hands-on flotation experience (essential).
- Demonstrated success in improving production, recoveries and cost performance.
- Experience managing large teams, budgets and statutory compliance.
- Experience in Zimbabwe or the wider southern African mining environment (advantageous).
Knowledge
- Gold mining methods, mineral processing and metallurgical principles.
- Flotation circuit design, operation and optimisation.
- Mine planning, ventilation, ground control and mine safety.
- Mining legislation, environmental regulations and compliance in Zimbabwe.
- Financial management, budgeting and cost control.
